Boral: up to eight cameras per truck, and 500+ installs on the way to 1,500+ assets

Boral is fitting MDVR with up to eight cameras across its tippers and tankers, new and existing, alongside trackers on unpowered trailers and quarry machinery. 500+ assets are done, with installs running continuously towards 1,500+ Australia-wide.

The challenge

A loaded tipper or tanker towing one or more trailers has a lot of vehicle around it that the driver can't see. Blind spots along the trailer, around the rear and at the kerb are where the most serious incidents with other road users happen, in traffic, on site and at the quarry gate.

When something does happen, the question is what actually occurred. Without footage, an incident turns into competing accounts, and a claim can take months to settle whichever way the facts lie.

Boral wanted the same camera coverage on every heavy vehicle, whether it was new off the line or already years into service, and visibility of the trailers and quarry machinery that move between sites without a truck attached.

The programme is built to deliver:

  • Footage that resolves incidents on the facts and supports the defence of claims.
  • Blind spot coverage that protects other road users, pedestrians and people on site.
  • Driver-facing video that supports coaching, not just investigation.

How we're rolling it out

  • Stage 1

    New and existing fleet

MDVR fitted to new tippers and tankers as they arrive, and retrofitted to vehicles already in service, so the whole fleet runs on one standard.

  • Stage 2

    Cover the whole combination

Up to eight channels per vehicle: driver, road, multi-trailer and blind spot cameras, configured to each truck and trailer combination.

  • Stage 3

    Track what isn't attached

Trackers fitted to unpowered trailers and quarry machinery, so assets stay visible between hook-ups and between sites.

  • Stage 4

    A continuous install stream

Installs run as an ongoing programme rather than a single project, with 500+ assets fitted and the fleet growing towards 1,500+.

What we deployed

MDVR, up to eight channels

Driver, road, multi-trailer and blind spot cameras recorded on the vehicle and retrievable remotely.

Blind spot camera assistance

Live views of the zones a driver can't see, along the trailer and around the rear and kerb side.

Retrofit to the existing fleet

The same camera standard on older trucks as on new ones, fitted without replacing the vehicle.

Unpowered trailer tracking

Self-powered trackers on trailers that spend time detached from a prime mover.

Quarry machinery tracking

Yellow gear on quarry sites tracked alongside the road fleet.

Footage on the telematics timeline

Video sits with GPS, speed and event data in Netcorp360, not in a separate camera portal.
